Acton Toyota of Littleton Helps Find Homes for Youth in State Foster Care

BOSTON, MA - Acton Toyota of Littleton is showing its customers the many benefits of donating a used car through its dealership - it not only helps them get a tax break, but it also helps hundreds of special needs children in Massachusetts foster care find a "permanent place to call HOME."

   
Over the past year, Acton Toyota of Littleton has been a top referrer to the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange's (MARE) Car Donation Program, one of MARE's key fundraising initiatives to maintain its mission of recruiting adults to adopt local youth from foster care. To commend the dealership's commitment to building families through adoption, MARE recently presented Acton Toyota of Littleton with a "Friend of the Family" award.

"Sometime a customer's used car is worth more to them as a charitable tax donation than we can give them in trade-in value," said Mike Hills, general manager of Acton Toyota of Littleton. "We're glad to give our customers the option of turning their used cars into a good deed for needy children."

Acton Toyota of Littleton has referred dozens of used car owners to MARE's Car Donation Program.  The vehicles (car, trucks, motorcycles, and even boats) are processed in conjunction with Route 128 Used Auto Parts in Waltham, MARE's automobile recycling partner. Each donated vehicle has value to MARE, having provided over $100,000 last year alone to support MARE's programs, such as Adoption Parties and Wednesday's Child stories on WBZ-TV.

A local TV investigative report described MARE's Car Donation Program as "one of the better ways to maximize donation dollars." MARE receives 50% of the proceeds when a donated vehicle is sold, while many other vehicle donation programs contribute only 7% - 10% to their designated charity.

MARE is currently seeking adoptive families for 517 children and teens in Massachusetts foster care. Over the past 52 years, MARE has helped more than 5,350 youth leave temporary state care for permanent family life.

"Each year more than 600 local teens 'age out' of the foster care system at age 18 to fend for themselves in our communities," said Lisa Funaro, MARE's executive director.  "With the generous support of Acton Toyota of Littleton and their customers, we can continue to focus on finding adoptive families for children in state care who have been waiting the longest for a home."

Acton Toyota of Littleton refunded over $40,000 to its "Cash for Clunkers" customers.

This comes in stark contrast to what the Boston Globe discovered upon investigating Boston, MA area dealerships' adherence to the CARS program requirement for dealers to return all but $50 of the "clunker" scrap value to the customer.
"I was surprised and pleased when in addition to the "Cash for Clunkers" rebate Acton Toyota also sent me the salvage value for the minivan that I traded in.  I commend Acton Toyota for their business practice on this issue and am pleased that I chose this dealership," writes Marshall Lee, resident of Concord, Mass and satisfied Acton Toyota customer.
Unfortunately, not all Boston, MA area "Cash for Clunkers" customers received their scrap value check like Mr. Lee.  The Boston Globe found that out of the 10 Boston, Mass area dealers it interviewed, half stated they did not return the money and two others declined to comment.  Herb Chambers remarked "?customers got the government money, which is all they were entitled to."  A local Boston, MA Nissan dealership stated "[we] did not return any of that money to customers because none asked for it."

Toyota Announces details of remedy to address potential accelerator pedal entrapment

Torrance, Calif., November 25, 2009 - - Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS) announced today details of the vehicle-based remedy to address the root cause of the potential risk for floor mat entrapment of accelerator pedals in certain Toyota and Lexus models. Toyota issued a consumer safety advisory on September 29 on this issue and has, as an interim measure, commenced the mailing of safety notices to certain Toyota and Lexus owners on October 30.


The models involved are: 2007 to 2010 MY (model year) Camry, 2005 to 2010 MY Avalon, 2004 to 2009 MY Prius, 2005 to 2010 MY Tacoma, 2007 to 2010 MY Tundra, 2007 to 2010 MY ES350, 2006 to 2010 MY IS250, and 2006 to 2010 MY IS 350.
The specific measures of the vehicle-based remedy are as follows:

1. The shape of the accelerator pedal will be reconfigured to address the risk of floor mat entrapment, even when an older-design all-weather floor mat or other inappropriate floor mat is improperly attached, or is placed on top of another floor mat.  For the ES350, Camry, and Avalon models involved, the shape of the floor surface underneath will also be reconfigured to increase the space between the accelerator pedal and the floor.

2. Vehicles with any genuine Toyota or Lexus accessory all-weather floor mat will be provided with newly-designed replacement driver- and front passenger-side all-weather floor mats.  In addition, as a separate measure independent of the vehicle-based remedy, Toyota will install a brake override system onto the involved Camry, Avalon, and Lexus ES 350, IS350 and IS 250 models as an extra measure of confidence. This system cuts engine power in case of simultaneous application of both the accelerator and brake pedals.

Toyota is in the process of completing development of these actions and for the ES350, Camry, and Avalon will start notifying owners of the involved vehicles via first-class mail by the end of this year.  The remedy process regarding the other five models will occur on a rolling schedule during 2010.
Dealers will be trained and equipped to make the necessary modifications to these models starting at the beginning of 2010.  Initially, dealers will be instructed on how to reshape the accelerator pedal for the repair.  As replacement parts with the same shape as the modified pedal become available, they will be made available to dealers for the repair, beginning around April 2010.  Customers who have had the remedy completed will have the opportunity to receive a new pedal if they desire.
In the meantime, owners of the involved vehicles are asked to take out any removable driver?s floor mat and not replace it with any other floor mat until they are notified of the vehicle-based remedy, as notified in the consumer safety advisory and the interim notice.

The brake override system will be made standard equipment throughout the Toyota and Lexus product lines starting with January 2010 production of ES350 and Camry and is scheduled to be incorporated into new production of most models by the end of 2010.

The safety of our owners and the public is our utmost concern and Toyota has and will continue to thoroughly investigate and take appropriate measures to address any defect trends that are identified.

Toyota Increases Your Safety with Safety Connect

Acton Toyota of Littleton is proud to now offer Toyota vehicles equipped with Toyota's brand new Safety Connect feature.
Safety Connect links drivers who need assistance to a 24 hour response center by way of an Emergency Assistance Button labeled "SOS." The response center can then quickly and efficiently determine the location of the driver and vehicle thanks to Safety Connect's embedded cellular and GPS technology.
The Safety Connect system ultimately provides drivers the ability to receive help in situations where there is an accident, vehicle theft, or when roadside assistance is required.
Safety Connect boasts an Automatic Collision Notification feature that is designed to notify the Safety Connect response center after airbag deployment or a severe rear-end collision so the center may then quickly send help.
A Stolen Vehicle Location on Safety Connect also allows the response center to track a vehicle's location and immediately supply it to the police greatly enhancing the chances of recovery.
Additionally, Safety Connect can supply local service providers the vehicle's location should the driver need Road Assistance such as towing, jump starts, a tire change, or emergency delivery of fluids.
Toyota will offer the first year of service at no charge to the driver who afterwards can then extend the service under a variety of plans.
The system is currently available only on select 2010 Toyota Prius, but will be expanded to cover additional models. Unfortunately, the system cannot be installed in previous Toyota models, including the Prius.

The 2010 Toyota 4Runner Is Almost Here!

For Prius, Cutting-Edge Cool is Hot New Norm

To go before. To go beyond. In its third generation, the 2010 Toyota Prius builds on its eco-techno base to provide more power, more mpg and more futuristic features.
Take, for example, the optional solar moonroof that helps keep drivers from losing their cool. While the car is parked, solar panels power a ventilation fan that reduces the temperature inside. As owners approach their car, they can tamp down the temp even more by flipping on the A/C with an available key fob.
It's the kind of option that should appeal to the technologically savvy as well as the simply sweaty. In other words, the broad customer base that Prius needs to remain the best-selling hybrid in the world.
Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager Bob Carter helped introduce the 2010 Toyota Prius at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Jan. 12.
"The features and performance of the new midsize 2010 Toyota Prius are superior to anything we have ever built," Carter said. "And along with building a better car, we will make it available in more places. We plan to sell this new 2010 Toyota Prius in 80 countries worldwide, nearly twice as many as today."
The new model arrives in U.S. showrooms this spring, equipped with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine that pumps up performance. The 2010 Toyota Prius zips from zeo to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds in internal testing, compared to 10.9 seconds for its predecessor.
Fuel efficiency also improves, thanks to advances in design and technology. An aerodynamic stretched silhouette, along with underbody covers, minimizes air resistance, reducing the drag cofficient from .26 to .25. A new exhaust heat collection system uses engin collant to extract exhaust hear, improving engine warm-up time and increasing start-up fuel economy.
A redesigned gas tank not only simplifies the fueling system but also sheds weight. In fact, the entire hybrid system weighs less.
As a result, of the changes, the new 2010 Toyota Prius is expected to get an EPA-estimated combined rating of 50 miles per gallon, four more than the current generation.
Size also shifts. While exterior dimensions are comparable to the current model, the interior is more spacious, thanks to a smaller batter control module and other space savers. The cargo area cradles three golf bags instead of two.
Of course, the 2010 Toyota Prius' propensity for "green" goes well beyond a golf green. Plant-derived "Ecological Plastics" are used in seat cushion foam, trim and scuff plates. Then there's the new cool exhaust gas recirculation system that cycles some exhaust gas back into the engine, reducing certain emissions. It's another potent pairing of eco and techno that should help the 2010 Toyota Prius clean up in the expanding hybrid vehicle market.
