Eidlitz conducted a survey for The MetroWest Daily News community examining the
cost of a 25,000 mile Toyota scheduled maintenance for a 2008 Toyota Prius.
Eidlitz contacted many of the major Toyota dealerships the Boston, MA and Boston
metro-west community for her survey. In her study, Eidlitz found Acton Toyota
of Littleton had one of the least expensive service rates for the 2008 Toyota
Prius. The Littleton, MA Boston dealership charged $59 for the service, while
Eidlitz found one Toyota dealership charged as much $109.95 for the identical
Toyota Prius service.
To help explain why there is such a variance in prices for the Toyota Prius service (and presumably all Toyota vehicle services), Eidlitz contacted Don Lombardo of Toyota USA/Customer Relations. Lombardo states, "A Toyota dealership is an independently owned and operated franchise. The dealership retains discretion over its individual services charges. Costs of customer-pay services, and methods of determining costs for these services, are not standardized by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc, and may vary by region and by dealership."
